Diana Jones and Mary Gauthier: Songs of Sorrow and Salvation from the American South...
Mary Gauthier and Diana Jones bring their versions of Southern Gothic to a series of European dates beginning April 12th in Tullamore, Ireland. Dubbing the evening, "Songs of Sorrow and Salvation from the American South," Gauthier and Jones each boast repertoire that explores social issues and reveals the cultural character of the American South. With deeply flawed characters, sparse simple melodies, and a couple of chord changes, Jones and Gauthier create haunting pictures of the places from where they come, Gauthier from deep south Louisiana, and Jones from Appalacia, in East Tennesse.
Gauthier adds, "I am thrilled to be on the road again with Diana Jones. Sharing the stage and singing with a writer/singer of her talent inspires, uplifts, and challenges me, and I am certain that these shows will be dynamic, as we plan on improvising and letting the spirit move us. I am really looking forward to this tour." (Click 4 dates)

Jones's hard, rootless life fills every lonesome note she sings. Her voice is torn yet starkly pretty as she sings about love, loss, and the uncertain quest for home. -- Scott Alarik, The Boston Globe

who totally charms audiences. What sets her apart - and this is the

"Diana Jones, like Gillian Welch and Iris Dement, has the uncanny ability to write original songs that sound like they originated a couple centuries ago in some backwoods West Virginia holler... she can sit and sing for a spell on my front porch any time."

"Diana Jones writes songs which she sings in such a haunting high lonesome that one can’t help but wonder if she isn’t the lost daughter of the Carter Family."-- Ann Patchett, New York Times

Chicago Tribune declares Diana Jones's
"My Remembrance of You" #1 for the Year!!
"Like Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch and Iris DeMent, Jones is a singular voice who chooses art over easy commerce. Jones is an Americana gem. Whether she's limning the despair of a dance-hall girl on "Pretty Girl" or the aching dislocation of a Native American child on "Pony," Jones brings a Haggard-esque sensitivity to these self-penned songs." -- Chrissie Dickinson, Chicago Tribune

"A resonant vintage folk/bluegrass bender, My Remembrance haunts with it's tales... of the human spirit. Her voice sounds like the smoke from a hand rolled cigarette... It's old-time, perhaps even out-of-time, and it draws you in with it's musky, dusky tone and emotional nuances that glow like dying coals." --Holly Gleason, No Depression

Nashville Scene's Best of 2006
"Her songs are as threadbare and timeless as a Carter Family classic, yet as personal and carefully crafted as a John Prine or Guy Clark tune." -- Michael McCall, Nashville Scene

"Her voice has that stripped-down, Dust Bowl quality of Iris DeMent, the Appalachian edge of Gillian Welch and Alison Krauss, and the strength of Joan Baez. Without an ounce of pretense or phony artifice, her sparse sound incorporates a we'll-never-get-out-of-this-alive Hank Williams fatalism that is at once tragic and uplifting." ~ Houston Press
